EUROPEAN PATENT APPLICATION GRANTED FOR INHIBITORS OF THE uPAR/FPRs RECEPTOR INTERACTION

Rome, 7 January 2026 – Cube Labs S.p.A. (“Cube Labs” or the “Company”) – an Italian venture builder in the healthcare technology sector listed on Euronext Growth Milan, Professional Segment – announces that the European Patent Office (EPO) has granted the patent application filed by its subsidiary Orpha Biotech, which is 51% owned by the Company, 44% by the Cube Labs trust (of which Cube Labs is the sole beneficiary), and the remaining 5% by INBB, relating to the invention entitled “Inhibitors of the uPAR/FPRs receptor interaction”.

The patent, published today in the European Patent Bulletin under number EP4125833, protects a novel class of innovative compounds capable of inhibiting the interaction between the urokinase receptor (uPAR) and formyl peptide receptors (FPRs), a molecular mechanism involved in numerous inflammatory, fibrotic and autoimmune pathological processes.

The invention falls within the field of advanced pharmaceutical research and opens up new potential therapeutic applications in areas characterised by a high level of unmet medical need, including, by way of example, systemic sclerosis, pulmonary fibrosis, sarcoidosis, vasculitis, chronic inflammatory bowel diseases and other systemic inflammatory and fibrotic disorders.

The European patent application, originally filed on 23 March 2021 under number 21718958.8, will be protected as a Unitary Patent in the countries participating in the system (namely Italy, France, Germany, Portugal, Austria, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Malta, the Netherlands, Romania, Belgium and Luxembourg) and, in addition, will be validated in the United Kingdom and Switzerland, in line with Orpha Biotech’s intellectual property protection strategy.

Filippo Surace, CEO and Founder of Cube Labs, commented:
“The granting of the European patent represents a key milestone in Orpha Biotech’s development path and confirms the value of the scientific platform on which the Company is built. The invention is aimed at the development of new therapeutic options for rare diseases and conditions such as systemic sclerosis, areas marked by a high unmet clinical need and by limited treatment alternatives that are largely focused on symptom management. Cube Labs thus continues to foster high-scientific-value initiatives addressing profound clinical needs, with the goal of generating a tangible impact on patients’ lives.”
